Casey Hanrahan is a ceramic artist from the small New England town of Oakdale, CT. She studied at Hartford Art School in Hartford, CT where she received a BFA in Ceramics and Illustration in 2012. For the next five years, she taught high school art at St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, CT. In 2017 Casey moved from Connecticut to Phoenix, AZ to attend the ASU ceramic graduate program. Casey received her Master’s in ceramics from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University in 2020.

The southwest colors and pace of life in Phoenix have influenced Casey’s work during her time in the desert. More unexpected color combinations have emerged and her forms have gotten more loose and expressive.

Casey combines color and function to create her tactile pottery. She uses stains to paint in a plaster mold and layers various glazing methods to achieve a variety of texture.
